About Edie Sedgwick
Edie came from a wealthy sophisticated family whose heritage dating back to the
revolutionary war. Edie was born in and raised Santa Barbara on a huge ranch half the size of Manhattan with her seven brothers and sisters. They grew up in a cloistered environment and were home schooled. Edie was an excellent horseback rider and swimmer.

Edie was cultured, witty and, intelligent. “A goddess. She was beauty beyond compare! The “It girl.” Edie was a fashion trend setter. At the age of 20 Edie left the family ranch to come East. She loved Manhattan. There she spent money like water. Her fashion leadership lives on today. Edie was known for the black leotard look. And chandelier earrings.

Edie was Andy Warhol’s superstar of 18 of his movies. She was the star of the film “Ciao! Manhattan” The “Underground” Marilyn Monroe. Edie was in Vogue. On the covers of top magazines. Edie moved back to the family ranch in Santa Barbara after a falling out with Andy. She loved the outdoors. She loved Manhattan more.

DeJay says every moment with Edie was like 1,000 years. “She directed all her attention
to you. Edie made you feel important. And, she loved and nurtured you. “ Her expressive eyes and thoughtful eyes were always in motion. One of DeJay’s portraits of Edie was posted on the internet when DeJay (Ron Bacsa) entered it into a faculty art show. Thousands of people have reached out to Ron. People from all over the world. Girls and guys who feel connected to Edie. Recently Vanity Fair called DeJay and used twelve of his portraits of Edie in an eleven-page story about Edie. Along with his photography, DeJay has had a long advertising career working as an award-winning art director on four of America’s top ten brands such as Ford, Chrysler, General Motors and AT&T. Ron Bacsa is a tenured professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and continues to teach advertising design, graphic design and communication design in NYC.

About Us

Ronald Bacsa is a creative director and professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He wrote this book to bring relevance to Edie’s legacy to the millennial and generation z’s of our time.
